We are proud to announce that classes in Hajime Kinoko Ichinawa style of Shibari are now going to be hosted at Shibari Perth
Hajime Kinoko is one of Japan's leading rope and Shibari artists.
He has held workshops and performed in over 20 countries worldwide and also regularly exhibits his photography and installation works.
In 2004 he launched the Ichinawakai "one rope community" for people to meet and practise rope and later designed the Ichinawa course as a form of structured Shibari learning that continues to be taught to this day in Japan as well as by certified instructors around the world.
The Ichinawa course focuses on model comfort and ease of tying. The 12 units give a solid technical foundation in Shibari and take you from zero rope knowledge all the way to full suspensions and transitions. The units build skills in a logical and accessible way, allowing you to develop your Shibari know-how safely and with confidence. Course materials in the form of videos for each unit are provided, allowing you to practise between classes and refresh your memory. At any time, you could also stop by the Tokyo studio and join the weekly Ichinawakai class or the monthly salon and meet some fellow students as you will be part of the Ichinawakai community.
Upon successful completion of the curriculum you can choose to be tested by Hajime Kinoko and will receive a personally signed graduation certificate.
Shibari Perth is Perth's only purpose built rope space. Build your skills in air-conditioned comfort, with safety certified trussing and a licensed instructor who has personally trained with Hajime Kinoko in Japan. Class jute rope is provided for the first few sessions, but when you're ready to purchase your own we can give you all the advice you need to select, care and maintain your rope and equipment.
Taking the class is Kat who has a background in education and Japanese language. She is passionate about all things rope - starting out as a model and then transitioning to rigging before completing her certification as an Ichinawa instructor.
People of all levels are invited to attend and you do not need a model for your first class (a model is required for the second class onwards.)
All attendees start at Grade 10 and move their way down to Grade 1, regardless of your previous Shibari/rope experience.
Private lessons covering the curriculum content are also available if the group class times do not suit.
Please enquire for more details.
Ichinawa class times: The next two Saturdays then twice a month after that.
Class cost:
Grades 10-8 $50 per tying couple + course material fee (if required)
