Rope Tales
Performance Night
Join us for a rare and personal evening with internationally respected Shibari artists Kirigami and Tenshiko, two of the most prominent figures in contemporary Kinbaku education today.
For the first time in Perth, this special “Meet the Greet” event offers an opportunity to step beyond the workshop environment and experience their work in a more intimate, immersive setting.
Whether you are new to rope or an experienced practitioner, this evening is designed to be welcoming, engaging, and inspiring.
About the Artists
We are delighted to welcome Kirigami and Tenshiko, partners both in rope and in life, for an evening of performance and conversation.
Teaching and performing across Europe since 2012, they are based at Yugen Studio in Milan, where they produce a Kinbaku magazine distributed in 25 countries across all continents. Their work is deeply rooted in classical Japanese Kinbaku, refined through years of stage performance, private sessions, photographic work, and dedicated study.
Beyond rope, their artistic path has been strongly influenced by traditional Japanese arts, particularly the tea ceremony, which continues to inform their approach to aesthetics, presence, and connection.
Since 2023, they have expanded their teaching internationally across Latin America and Australia, completing six intercontinental tours. They also collaborate closely with Sugiura Norio Sensei on editorial projects, international workshops, and cultural education programs featuring both Sugiura Norio and Naka Akira.
In 2025, Kirigami became the first non-resident of Japan to be invited to tie for Kinbaku Sajiki, the renowned photographic series curated by Sugiura Norio.
Performance
The evening will begin with an intimate Kinbaku performance, offering a rare opportunity to experience the artistry, connection, and refined aesthetic sensibilities that have established Kirigami and Tenshiko as respected figures within the international rope community.
Meet and Greet
Following the performance, guests are invited to remain for a relaxed and informal ‘Meet the Masters’ session.
This is your opportunity to ask questions, hear stories from their years of study and international travel, and gain insight into their experiences learning, teaching, and collaborating within the Japanese kinbaku world.
Whether your interest lies in technique, performance, history, cultural context, or their personal artistic evolution, this conversation offers a unique chance to engage directly with two artists whose lives are deeply dedicated to their craft.
Join us for an evening of rope, culture, conversation, and connection.
